Abstract Oil Paintings
My oil paintings are spatial enquiries seeking to express philosophical ideas based on the play of colours and how they combine to create a feeling of movement and depth through rhythms and waves on flat surfaces.
Using oil paint on canvas gives me great flexibility when reworking the colour, and I produce either hard edged or softer blended shapes to create an illusion of perspective and depth.
Evolving throughout the production process, the finished canvas may bear only some resemblance to the idea I originally sketched out, this allows me to keep my work spontaneous. I frequently pursue a subject farther producing a series of pictures on the same theme, for instance ‘Oscillations I - VIII’, or ‘Thought Waves I - IV’, although each picture will stand alone as well as in the series.
