I always like to see new places, either here at home or abroad, but when travelling to places overseas, it is not terribly practical to pack oils, canvasses and an easel, in with ones clothes. Taking a sketch pad, a small set of watercolours and a good camera enables one to do all but the finished painting, and maximise on the number of future paintings. A trip of just a few days can net some excellent subject matter. Venice, even in drab November, has its own particular magic and grace. I hope that I have captured some of that charm in these paintings.
